At age 13, Andre Davis was rattled by the sudden death of his policeman father, who died while in the line of duty. Driven by that traumatic experience, NYPD Detective Andre Davis (played by Chadwick Boseman) leads a citywide manhunt to catch a couple of cop-killers. In a recent robbery that left 8 of his men dead, Detective Davis is put to the ultimate test in this high-pursuit action thriller to uncover more than he set out to find.
“There are 21 bridges in and out of Manhattan. Shut ‘em down. Three rivers. Close them. Four tunnels. Block them. Stop every train line that leaves the Island – Amtrak, PATH, New Jersey Transit, LIRR – and loop the subways. Then we flood the Island with Blue.”
– Andre Davis
While the film is loaded with thrill, there are numerous layers and nuances laced throughout that explore the thin line between cop and perpetrator. The blurred line between heroes and villains leaves the audience in a struggle to decide which side is the righteous one.
We wanted to put some dirt under his [Davis’s] fingernails and make him a little less refined and less of a simple heroic figure.
Producer Logan Coles
21 Bridges provides a rock-solid storyline and stunning visual direction. The film was produced by the makers of Avengers: Infinity War and Game of Thrones. The team found a challenge in selecting the perfect cast to portray each character with considerable depth. Davis’s partner, Frankie Burns (played by Sienna Miller) is a single mom who also works erratic hours as a drug enforcement task force narcotics detective. The unlikely duo’s characters must mesh to execute the intent of the script.
“It’s a complex character that Sienna embodies so fully, Coles said. “She has this warm motherly feeling, but then you see her with a gun in her hand and kicking butt; it’s really impressive.”
21 Bridges releases Friday, Nov 22. to theaters nationwide.
